Episodes 56 thru 65?? - Catching up

Alright, I've gotten out of the habit of updating this blog.  But I'm going to take a moment now to bring it up to date.  Seems like it must have been about 10 sessions.

Here's a summary of the last segment of the campaign.

A beholder names Kanzalacanar came to Terra Malatia from another world.  He hates and fears dragons, and he wished to acquire the Crown of Trakas.  This was for two reasons.  First, he wanted to prevent the resurgence of the Tiamat-worshiping society known as Bahumati.  Second, he had an elaborate collection of artifacts and powerful magic items.  The crown would add nicely to that collection.

He knew that the crown was in the possession of a group of adventures associated with the magic shop of Sihirbaz.  He had a convoluted plan to get the crown.  He established a base of operation along the shore to the south of Fort Aralan.  There he united opposing factions of the goblinoids into a cohesive army.  With this group he formed an alliance with an organized crime group known as "The Pale Moon".  He provided funding and weapons to the Pale Moon, so that they could challenge the dominate group ("White Skull") for illicit business in the colony.  A group of cultists took notice of this uprising and began to worship Kanzalacanar as a messiah promised by their religion.

With these 3 factions as his allies, he began to mount a series of terror attacks against the city.  He used rogues from Pale Moon to set up teleport sigils within the city.  Then he used those sigils to drop monsters into the city, causing all kinds of mayhem.

Then he began to try to extort the party.  Give up the crown, or the attacks would continue.  Kanzalacanar did not reveal his identity.  He was simply know to them as "The Goblin King"

After a period of time the city leadership was onto this scheme, and they pressured the party to put an end to it, one way or the other.

So the party set out to find the Goblin King.  They reached his base, and undersea fortress carved into the bedrock beneath the sand just off shore.  This fortress emerged above the waterline as a huge tower, topped with a crystal sphere.

The party entered with fortress through a tunnel underground.  They learned that to enter the tower the must acquire 3 keys, one for each faction in the Goblin King's alliance (goblinoids, Pale Moon, and Cultists).  They took on these factions one at a time, acquired all 3 keys, and entered the tower.

They discovered that the crystal sphere atop the tower was actually a portal to a sort of astral dock, floating high about Terra Malatia.  There was an astral vessel at this dock, and they could see in the distance huge glass sphere.

They sailed to the glass sphere and discovered it to be a beholders lair.  Among the beholders treasures was a petrified gold dragon.

Perra used a clever maneuver to trick the beholder into striking the pertified dragon with his anti-magic cone.  This freed the dragon.  With the dragon on their side, the party was able to defeat Kanzalacanar.

They struck a deal with the gold dragon.  They gave it the beholders astral base, as well as much of its treasure.  In exchange, the dragon would keep the Crown of Trakas, safely away from Fort Aralan and Terra Malatia.
