#48 and #49 grand finale

Sorry.  I procrastinated for almost a year in documenting the last couple of sessions of the game.  I'll summarize in a few bullet points.

  • The party discovered the vampire Egilina's lair beneath the base of the mountain fortress.  She had been stranded there since the great battle 1000 years ago.  She is beautiful, in a creepy undead way.  Deceptive.  And very vain.  She had indeed been the queen of the region where now Ft Aralan lies, in the time when the plague was causing the world to collapse.
  • It was due to Egilina's presence that the Bahumati had been unable to clear the mountain fortress of the undead that haunted it.
  • Egilina was forbidden by her vampire nature from entering the upper chambers of the mountain.  Entering the lair of another thinking creature, including a dragon, without invitation is impossible for a vampire.
  • A group of Bahumati had migrated across the "Great Dark Sea", an enormous sea in the Underdark beneath the area west of the mountain.  They were working to restore the mountain as an new colony for their empire.
  • All Bahumati settlements require a dragon to be the "Sovereign".  A pampered dragon lives in the center of each one, and the colony exists to serve it.  A ceremony was to occur to summon a sovereign to the new colony.
  • Egilina intimidated the party into a sort of bargain.  She would aid their fight against the Bahumati.  She would lend her power to the fight against the dragon.  In return, the party would allow her to take over the mountain fortress as her own when the battle concluded.
  • On the night of the ceremony to summon the dragon, the party snuck into the event.  They used magic to control a Bahumati priest.  They tricked this priest into inviting Egilina into the ceremony.  When the Dragon arrived, a battle commenced.
  • An army of undead emerged from the mountain to take on the masses of Bahumati kobold and dragonborn soldiers.  Leaving the dragon to Egilina and the party.
  • Defeating the dragon proved to be a fairly easy task, given the strength of the party, and their vampire ally.
  • The party turned against Egilina in a surprise attack.  In the end, she assumed gaseous form and drifted off into the night sky.

Some unanswered questions:
  • Now what happens to the mountain fortress?  The Bahumati plans to revive it have been thwarted.  But no one is left in charge now that they have left.
  • Where has Egilina gone?
